As Dan and I take the next step emotionally into our relationship, (moving in together) we have devised a plan to take a new intellectual step together. Each of us makes a list of 5 books at a time and 5 movies at a time, we set a deadline to have finished them by and then we discuss them.
Book List Rules:
-We cannot have read the books on our own lists.
However, the opposite party CAN have read the book.
- Only one MEGA book per list of 5. A Mega book is classified as OVER 700 pages or of a dense subject matter or textual content. (This is left up to a vote by the involved parties.)
- No original religious texts or reference books.
-At least 100 pages per week unless otherwise discussed based on the length of the book, content of the book, and parties schedules.
-Books must be available for both parties at the same time at the Public library, used bookstores or on the ereaders. No hard copies of the novels will be purchased brand new from evil companies such as Barnes and Noble.
-Any text under 60 pages (ie, plays or short stories) counts as 1/2 a book.
- Any anthology counts as a Megabook no matter the content or page numbers.
-All rules are up for spirited discussion.
**Dan wanted to the rules that if either party really hates the book, they have to read half the book anyway. However, I protested and said that the point of the project was to spark discussion and why one hates a book would make for a interesting topic.
We are still forming are lists, but it all started with Dan wanting to read the formidable Atlas Shrugged...
The lists are still in formation and movie rules are to come.
I also encourage people, friends, coworkers, couples, ect to take this challenge with us. Make your own rules, share you own literary passions.
Wish us luck; I'm afaird the wine bill might go up.
